”This mix is a short but intense representation of what I've been listening to for a few years now. I love to incorporate in my sets other genres that I’ve enjoyed as a melomaniac: dark ambient, industrial noise, downtempo techno pieces, and ultra-deep melancholic music (to name a few) to create a dystopian and cinematographic atmosphere.
It is an exploration of my relationship with music and the influences that have shaped me both musically and personally. It is designed to take listeners to unexpected places, disorient them, allow them to find themselves, provoke surprises, discomforts, or pleasures, and invite them to experience various emotions while letting themselves be totally carried by the music”.
Substencia is a producer, DJ, and live act based in Paris. With a background in music, she has been involved in the electronic scene through labels, webzines, and event organization. Since 2017, she has been creating dark industrial techno music infused with cinematics, collages, and noise, releasing her work on several EPs, compilations, and remixes on labels like Instinkt, Subverted, Culture of Violence, Drec, Kallkällan, Tjalk, and Intervision. Her music has garnered support from many international artists. Influenced by industrial music, dark ambient, neofolk, 90’s techno, and baroque music, her DJ and live sets have a cinematic, organic, and intense dimension. Substencia has performed at various parties and festivals across France, including Château Perché and FIFIB in Bordeaux, as well as renowned clubs in Europe like Tresor in Berlin, Elipamanoke in Leipzig, and Moog in Barcelona. In 2021, she became part of the post-industrial noise duo Kabocha, and in 2023, they released their first EP, 'Human Exceptionalism,' on their own label, performing live in Paris. Furthermore, Substencia has launched a new project called “Rust,” a webzine dedicated exclusively to alternative electronic music. This platform features interviews, album reviews, and more.
