A few weeks ago Mecanica released a monumental box, documenting the arguably most important parts within the oeuvre of industrial musics Grand Master Peter Andersson aka Deutsch Nepal.
Mecanica, already 20 years in operation and meanwhile resident in Poland, published an imposing number of (re-)releases. While a certain focus on the EBM sound of the 80’s and early 90’s has been conspicuous with re-issues of Frontline Assembly, Revolting Cocks, Absolute Body Control, !Bang Elektronika or a compilation of the legendary German imprint Boy Records, the label now opens the door to the darkest vaults Deutsch Nepal.
Peter Andersson’s project can be considered as one of the style-setting, yet utterly distinctive bands of Cold Meat Industries „golden years“ and this compilation includes five early works released between 1991 and 1999 on Cold Meat Industry and Staalplaat: “Deflagration of Hell”, “Benevolence”, “Tolerance”, “¡Comprendido!... Time Stop! ...And World Ending” und “Erosion”. The sixth LP in the bundle is called „Dystopian Selection“. Other than the title might suggest at first glance it is not a vinyl edition of the three-part „Dystopian Party Collection“, which were released both on Cold Meat and Peters own imprint Entartet Musikk, but the record assembles tracks that were previously scattered over various compilations (and except for „Razor in Motion“ and „We Are The Angels (Gabriel) haven’t been on vinyl before). Furthermore „Poison Free Market“, one of Deutsch Nepal’s most brilliant offerings and actually from the album “¡Comprendido!... Time Stop! ...And World Ending”, has been moved here - most likely due to space constraints.
This collectors item furthermore fitted with a slipmat, a pin and several postcards. First and foremost, however, it is a welcome occasion for vinyl devotees to rediscover these essential early works of Deutsch Nepal, which have lost none of their somber depth and their hallucinatory impact. This is music that requires undisturbed dedication, that requires surrender in order to experience the full epic dimension it has to offer and - as described on the label’s website - it is difficult to reduce these works, both „monstrous and divine“ to simple words.
It is to be hoped that with this box being titled „Vol. 1“ the vinylization of Deutsch Nepal’s rich discography will be continued.
