Is this really the end?

Metal is an erratic guest on board of our vessel, but since time immemorial we’ve been in full cry for every single release of the Dutch Black Metal ritualists Urfaust. And there was a lot of crying, our ship even started to list a little, since “Untergang” (ahem: “sinking”) indicates to be the bands farewell album.

“Untergang” is Urfaust's ultimate embodiment, abysmally noble, focused and excessive. As per usual every piece here is no less than an anthem. And despite sticking to the quite minimalist triad of instrumentation, on “Untergang” Urfaust unfolds a high-density credence table of sounds over which they spread out their evocative chants. More than ever the boundaries to related genres like dark ambient (“Reliquienstaub”) or noise (“Höllenkosmos”, “Atomtod”) seamlessly dissolve.

Epic swan songs, we’re unworthy of.

The magnificent vinyl sold out quickly at the VanRecords Onlineshop but CD is still available.
